Make a live dashboard with your AI
A dashboard your AI writes doesn't have to be a snapshot. Ask for one that fetches its data when it opens, publish it as a pane, and the same link shows current numbers every time someone opens it.
Two ways to keep it current
The pane fetches its data
For public data with an open API, such as earthquakes or package downloads, the pane loads the data in the viewer's browser each time it opens, so it's never out of date. The API has to allow requests from any origin (CORS), because a pane runs in an origin of its own.
Your AI refreshes it
For your own data, such as a CSV, a database export or test results, your AI reads it and writes the numbers into the pane. Ask again when the data changes: update_pane keeps the link and saves a new version.
Ask for it
With your AI connected, ask for the dashboard and say where its data comes from:
Make a pane with a world map of the last day's earthquakes from the USGS feed. Refresh it every minute.Chart daily npm downloads for react, vue and svelte over the last year, fetched live, as a pane.Read data/sales.csv and publish a sales dashboard pane: revenue by week, the top products and a table.Update the sales dashboard pane from the new data/sales.csv.Terminal agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI can read files and run commands in your project, so they suit dashboards of your own data. Publish HTML from Claude Code connects one in a minute.
Refresh it on a schedule
To refresh a pane without a chat, have a script or a scheduled job send the new page to the REST API, with an API key of its own. The pane keeps its link:
curl -s -X PATCH https://openpane.oblaidish.com/api/v1/panes/PANE_ID -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d @pane.jsonHere pane.json holds the new source, as {"content": "…"}.
What a live pane can reach
- APIs that allow requests from any origin, as many public data APIs do.
- Scripts, styles and fonts from CDNs, so chart and map libraries work in HTML panes. React panes can import only
reactandreact-dom. - Nothing of the viewer's: no cookies, no local storage and nothing on their computer. A pane runs in a sandbox in their browser.
- No secrets. Anyone who can open a pane can read its source, so an API that needs a secret key doesn't belong in one.
Keep private numbers private
When your AI writes your data into a pane, the pane holds it. Keep it private, the default, or share it by email with the people who should see it. Make it unlisted or public only when anyone may see it: see Sharing.
More live panes
Each one fetches or makes its data in the browser, as it opens.
- Where is the ISS right now? A live trackerHTML paneIts position every few seconds, the path it just flew and the one ahead, over a map of where it is day and night on Earth.
