Turn ChatGPT output into a web page

ChatGPT can write a web page, a React app or a Markdown report, but sharing one usually means copying the code somewhere else. Connect it to Openpane, and it publishes what it writes as a page at its own link, private until you share it.

Connect ChatGPT

ChatGPT signs in to Openpane with OAuth, so there's no API key to copy.

  1. Add the server

    Open Plugins, click + and choose Add custom MCP server. No +? Turn on Developer mode in Settings → Security and login.

  2. Fill in the form

    Then tick I understand and want to continue, and click Create as a plugin.

    NameOpenpane
    Server URLhttps://openpane.oblaidish.com/api/mcp
    AuthenticationOAuth
  3. Allow it on Openpane

    Openpane opens: sign in if it asks, check the request and click Allow. You're back in ChatGPT, connected.

  4. Use it in Work chats

    Install the plugin, switch from Chat to Work, type @ and pick Openpane.

It's listed under Connected apps on Openpane's API keys page, where you can disconnect it.

Ask for a page

In a Work chat with Openpane picked, ask for anything better seen than read:

Prompttry it
Turn this table into a dashboard pane with a chart of sign-ups by week.
Prompttry it
Write these meeting notes up as a Markdown pane.
Prompttry it
Make a pane with a quiz on these ten words, and give me the link.

ChatGPT sends the page to Openpane with create_pane and answers with its link. Ask for changes and it updates the same pane: the link stays the same, and each change is saved as a new version.

Or paste it in

Already have code ChatGPT wrote? Open New pane, give it a title, pick HTML, React or Markdown, paste the code and save it. It gets its own link the same way. React code needs a component named App: see Pane types.

Share it

Panes start private. Ask ChatGPT to make one unlisted, so anyone with the link can open it without an account, or add people by email on its Share page. More in Sharing.

From Codex

OpenAI's Codex connects with an API key. The Codex CLI, its IDE extension and its desktop app share one file:

You need an Openpane API key. The API keys page makes one for Codex and fills it into every step. Here, the steps show YOUR_API_KEY where it goes.

Make a key for Codex

~/.codex/config.tomlTOML
[mcp_servers.openpane]
url = "https://openpane.oblaidish.com/api/mcp"
http_headers = { "Authorization" = "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" }

Check it with codex mcp list, or /mcp inside codex, then ask Codex for a pane as you would ChatGPT. More in Connect Codex.
