Sharing
Panes are private until you share them. Share one with particular people by email, or open its link to anyone.
Who can open a pane
| Private | The default. You, and the people you share it with, signed in to Openpane. |
|---|---|
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link. It isn't listed, and search engines leave it out. |
| Public | Anyone. Listed on the Openpane home page, and open to search engines. |
Change it on the pane's Share page, or with visibility in update_pane or the API. Only unlisted and public panes can be embedded on other sites.
Share with people
On a pane's Share page, add people by email and choose whether Openpane emails them the link. They open it by signing in with that address, and find it under Shared. The page shows each person's role, end date and email status, and lets you email them again or copy the link. Shared → By you lists everything you've shared.
Viewers and editors
Viewers open the pane. Editors (Pro) also change its content, on the web or through their own API key, but never who can open it. Each version records who made it.
When your AI shares
Through an API key, and so through MCP, a share is only a request: share_pane answers with a link to the pane's Share page, where you approve or decline it. So a prompt hidden in a page or file your AI reads can't share your work. Taking people off needs no approval.
Ask for access
Someone who is signed in but not on the list sees Ask for access on the pane's page. You get an email, and share or decline from your dashboard. The page reads the same whether or not the pane exists, so it gives nothing away.
Hand over or reset
- Hand a pane over to someone it's shared with. It moves once they accept it under Shared, and you stay on as an editor.
- Reset its link to give it a new address. The old link and its embeds stop working; the people it's shared with keep access.
Plans
Every member starts on Free. During the beta, an Openpane admin switches Pro on.
| Feature | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| People per pane | 3, as viewers | 100 |
| Share emails a month | 10 | 500 |
| Editors | No | Yes |
| Access that ends on a date | No | Yes |
| Everyone at a company (@acme.com) | No | Yes |
| Saved groups | No | Yes |
| When each person last opened it | No | Yes |
Past the month's emails, sharing still works: Openpane asks you to send those people the link yourself. “Everyone at” a company takes a work domain, not a public mail service such as gmail.com.
